When you buy store-bought salad dressing you could be getting more chemical ingredients, preservatives and generally less healthy dressing.

Try making your own healthy salad dressing recipes tonight and find the ones you like the best. Then you can make them fresh once a week in a larger batch and store them in the fridge in a jar with a tight container for use when you eat salads.

Another good thing about making your own healthy salad dressings for salad is the cheaper cost. Also, as long as you don’t put any heavy mayonnaise or yogurt (use low-fat and low-calorie versions) or similar high fat ingredient in your dressings,  you will have low-calorie and low-fat dressings which are great for any diet.

11 Healthy Salad Dressings

Yogurt Dressing


1/2 cup plain low-fat yogurt
1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp of maple syrup
grated fresh ginger
1/2 tsp cumin and coriander
pepper to taste

To Make:

Combine all ingredients in jar with lid and shake it up.

Basil Dressing

This recipe also contains tomato so should be called tomato.


1 cup or so of fresh basil leaves
1 fresh tomato
1/2 cup of olive oil
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp of Dijon mustard
1 tbsp red wine vinegar

To Make:

In a blender mix all healthy salad dressings ingredients together. This makes about 1 cup of dressing.

French Dressing


1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp paprika
dry mustard to taste
salt and pepper to taste about 1/4 tsp s good of each
1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup apple cider vinegar

To Make:

Combine all in a jar and shake well. Makes around 3/4 of a cup of dressing.

Coleslaw Dressing


1 cup of low-fat low cal mayo
1/4 cup red wine vinegar
1 tbsp of sugar
1 tbsp parsley
1 tsp or oregano
1/2 to 3/4 tsp salt
1/8 to 1/4 tsp pepper

To Make:

In a jar mix all healthy salad dressings ingredients. Shake and refrigerate. Makes around one cup.

Red Wine Vinaigrette

Dressing Ingredients:

In a jar combine the following ingredients.

1 3/4 tbsp of apple cider vinegar
1 3/4 tbsp red wine vinegar
1/2 tbsp maple syrup or sugar
4 tbsp olive oil
pinch or two of paprika

To Make:

Shake all together in a jar with lid.

White Wine Vinaigrette

1/2 cup of olive oil
1/2 cup of white wine vinegar
2 large cloves garlic diced
2 tbsp or so or sugar
1/2 tsp salt
pepper to taste

To Make:

Put all ingredients in a jar with lid and shake well.

Maple Dressing


1/2 cup olive oil
1/4 cup of red wine vinegar
1/4 cup of maple syrup
1 tsp paprika
salt to taste
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1 tsp of paprika

To Make:

Mix all in a jar with a lid shaking well. Makes about a cup.

Strawberry Vinaigrette

Try this salad dressing over a spinach salad.


1/2 cup olive oil
1/3 cup of apple cider vinegar or rice vinegar
5 or 6 strawberries
1 tsp Dijon mustard
1/4 tsp salt or to taste
1/4 tsp black pepper or to taste

To make:

Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth. Makes 3/4 to 1 cup of vinaigrette.

Raspberry Vinaigrette


1 cup raspberries (can be frozen or fresh)
3 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp olive oil
1 tbsp red wine vinegar
1/2 tsp tamari soy sauce
To make:

In a saucepan, bring the raspberries and sugar to a boil. Stir constantly.
Boil for about 2 minutes and then take off of the heat. Put a fine mesh strainer over a bowl and strain out
the raspberry mix. Throw away any seeds. Add the oils and the tamari soy sauce. Stir and put in fridge overnight
before using.

This dressing is good on spinach or a green salad too.

Caesar Salad Dressing

This one takes a bit more effort to make but is well worth it. It has wonderful flavor. This recipe
does not contain anchovies!If you like anchovies just add about 1 tsp of anchovies paste.

2 cloves of garlic
2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 tbsp. of lemon juice
2 tsp of Dijon mustard
2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce
1 cup low-fat or low-calorie Mayo
1/3 to 1/2 of a cup of olive oil
1/3 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1/4 tsp. ground black pepper

To Make:
In a blender or a food processor blend all ingredients til smooth and creamy. This recipe makes about one cup of dressing.
