Eating grapefruit has been shown to lower levels of insulin, which makes you less hungry and sugar less likely to be metabolized as fat. It also contains something called naringin, that blocks the uptake of fatty acids into your cells to stop your body from effectively using carbs. In other words, grapefruit is nature’s fat burning super food.
On day 18, today, of our weight loss diet you’ll be eating grapefruit for breakfast as a free food, meaning you won’t have to count it as calories.
The variety of grapefruit normally found in supermarkets in the United States was first discovered in Barbados. It was brought into Florida in the 1800’s. It was referred to as the “forbidden fruit” in
Barbados in 1750. Grapefruit is believed to be a mutation of a pummelo and an orange and it seems it may have got its name because of the way it grows, hanging in clusters like grapes from a tree.
